About Me
Hi, I’m Shane Vas, originally from Sri Lanka and born into a musical family. My father, a guitarist, performed with many popular bands in Sri Lanka, and I’ve followed a similar path playing in bands and contributing to numerous guitar recordings. Teaching has always been one of my passions, and I’ve conducted private lessons and taught at places like the Yamaha Centre in Sri Lanka.
After completing my degree in Business Studies and getting married, I moved to Australia with my wife in 2022. Now based in Melbourne, I continue to perform with various bands and collaborate with many talented musicians.

I'm currently playing with two bands based in Melbourne. We perform at concerts, dinner dances, weddings, and a wide range of events. Our repertoire covers a variety of genres, allowing us to cater to diverse audiences and create the perfect atmosphere for any occasion.

Qualifications
I have studied music in school and have also dedicated significant time to self-study through regular practice sessions. In addition, I have completed both theory and practical music exams through Trinity College London. My qualifications are as follows:
- Grade 8 Classical Guitar with Merit
- Grade 6 Classical Guitar with Distinction (Silver medal)
- Music theory grade 7 with Merit
- Music theory grade 5 with distinction

I teach students of all ages! Whether you’re a child just starting out or an adult picking up an instrument for the first time (or after years), you’re welcome.
Yes, it’s best to have your own guitar or ukulele so you can practice between lessons. I can also offer recommendations if you’re buying your first instrument.
Lessons are typically 45 minutes
Lessons can be in-person (at my home / your home – specify as needed) or online via Zoom.
Most students take weekly lessons for steady progress, but I’m flexible based on your schedule and goals.
Yes, small group lessons can be arranged for friends, siblings, or families who want to learn together.
Yes, I can help prepare students for AMEB/Trinity exams, school performances, or whatever your goal is.
